Post War Career

He served in the 9th Battalion of the DLI in the North African Campaign. After the fall of Tobruk, the 50th Division, of which the 9th Battalion formed part, withdrew to an escarpment south of the town of Mersa Matruh. The Battalion's position was isolated and overrun by the German 90th Light Division. Initially it was reported that Vulliamy was killed and he was given an appropriate number in War Office records. He was in fact captured and transported to Italy where he was at Camp No.78 at Sulmona (postal mark 3300) at the time of the armistice. He was then despatched to Germany and was housed at Oflag 5a Weinburg (Wurtenburg) under POW 2420.

He qualified as a Solicitor in1939 and served as Coroner in North Suffolk and Ipswich.
