He was in the General Duties Branch and was a Flying Instructor, including a spell at a Flying Instructors' School. He finished his full time service career in the role of Technical Equipment Officer at the Cranwell Radar School.
Attended University College Oxford and was Captain of Boats at Oxford in 1948/9. Teacher and Head of Geography at Northgate Grammer School. Founder member of Ipswich Society and Chairman for 14 years. Justice of the Peace and Deputy Chairman of Ipswich Bench.
