Post War Career

He served on H. M. S. Kent which was a County-class heavy cruiser built in the late 1920s. At the beginning of WW2 the ship was on the China Station and she hunted the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee in the East Indies in late 1939. The ship was then re-assigned to troop convoy escort duties in the Indian Ocean. She was transferred to the Mediterranean in mid 1940 but was torpedoed shortly afterwards. After repairs, she was assigned to the Home Fleet where she escorted convoys to and from Russia.. She was flagship of a force which intercepted a German convoy in Norwegian waters and sank two freighters and five escorts.

He served with the Royal Navy from 1926 - 58 and, after retirement, worked with the Missions to Seamen until 1970.
