Post War Career

He joined the Royal Marines in Eastney in September 1944. He then served on HMS Gambia, transferring to HMS London in the Pacific Fleet.

After the war, he trained as a Signal Officer at Catterick after which he spent 2 years in Malaya in 42 Commando. He then served in Malta and Cyprus during the 1957 emergency with 40 Commando. In 1961, he was in Aden with 45 Commando and, for the last seven years of his service he was at I.T.C.R.M. Lypstone where he was a "leader supervising the re-building of the "new" Lympstone. Whilst there, he studied to become and Associate and later Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries.

He left the service in 1969 and worked as Administration Officer at West Sussex Fire Brigade and then with the North Thames Health Authority.
