Son of H. L. Litchfield of Ipswich who taught at Northgate School. Married Nan, daughter of H. W. Hatherly of Shanghai with two sons and a daughter.

School Record

Second Prefect. Actor. He excelled at Science. He won the John Henry Bartlet Prize in 4 successive years and, in his final year, carried off the Bartlet Exhibition, the Notcutt Prize for Physics, the Cobbold for Mathematics and the Rigaud Prize for the best boy proceeding to University. He was a member and Treasurer of the Ipswich School Club, Lance Corporal in the O. T. C. and a member of the French Circle and the Literary and Dramatic Society. He won an Open Scholarship in natural Science to Oriel College Oxford

He served from 1942 - 45 in military hospitals in Tunisia, Italy (including Monte Casino, Anzio, Salerno, San Marino), Palestine and Egypt.

Physician to St. Mary's Hospital and examiner at Oxford and London, his speciality being heart.

There is a story that, during the war, he told a very important Person that his condtion would be improved if he cut down his cigar smoking. "Young Man......! growled the patient".
