He served on HMS Caledon. This ship was a C-class light cruiser built for the Royal Navy in WW1 and was the "name" ship of the "Caledon" sub-class of the class. She was 450 long, with a beam of 42 feet and a speed of 29 knots. She carried a crew of approximately 400 officers and other ranks. In WW2 the ship spent the early part of the war with the home fleet escorting convoys. and was involved in the pursuit of of the German Battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. She was re-assigned to the Eastern Fleet between August 1940 and September 1942. She was then converted into an anti-aircraft cruiser at Chatham Dockyard from September 1942 to December 1943. Her entire armament was replaced with modern AA weaponry. She was obsolete by the end of the war and broken up in 1948.
