Family

Geoff was the youngest child of John & Kate Jewers of Shelland, Stowmarket. His siblings were Mary, Evelyn and John. John also attended Ipswich School, but was reserved occupation during the war.

School Record

Geoff was in the 1st XV Rugby and 1st X1 cricket. He was a good all round sportsman, but not academically gifted. He boarded in School House.

Post War Career

After school, he worked as a civil engineer for Ransomes & Rapier (Ipswich). He travelled to Egypt with the firm in 1939 to carry out work on barrages, and it was from here that he enlisted to the Royal Engineers in Feb 1940 in Cairo. He joined up as a Captain and was later promoted to Major. He was later posted to Turkey & Greece, mostly involved with the building of roads and airfields, and other civil engineering work. He spent the duration of the war overseas.




He met his future wife, Jo Woodward, in Alexandria during the war where she was serving as a chief petty officer in the W.R.N.S.. They were married in 1947 and had two children; Elizabeth and Daniel (who also went to Ipswich School). After the war, Geoff returned home to the family farm at New Farm, Shelland and continued working there into his eighties.

Burial Information

He died in 2008 aged 92 and is buried at Shelland,Stowmarket.
