He became an Air Cadet in 1943 upon leaving School. He was selected for flying training, enlisting at Cardington. He flew solo in Tiger Moths after only 11 hours training.
He initially entered the Architectural profession and was then called to the Ministry. He was ordained in 1954. He became an Ipswich Borough Councillor and was a Governor of Ipswich School from 1971 to 1983
