Post War Career

He served in 232 Battery of the 67th Medium Regiment in the Middle East as Wagon Line Officer organising the transport of men and equipment across the desert. He was captured at Tobruk in June 1942 and WAS a POW in Italy and then Germany.

After the War he returned to run J. H. Grimwade & Son outfitters in the Cornhill, Ipswich with his brother Ted becoming Chairman in 1970. He continued his sporting interests becoming County President of the Suffolk Mens Hockey from 1963 - 73 and was a president of Ipswich Golf Club. He was tax commissioner for 17 years and involved with the Ipswich Foundation Street Charities (Tooley Court Almshouses ) for over 30 years.
