Post War Career
He spent his war years in Whitehall where he was known as "CJ". He was in the Royal Army Pay Corps and it is speculated that he may have had an under-cover role.
He had hoped to make the Army his career but he returned to Walton after the War to care for his mother who was in failing health.He went into business on his own account and ran Palmer's Agency, one of the first employment agencies in Ipswich. He became a member of Felixstowe Urban District Council and, in 1977, became full time Mayor of Felixstowe.
