Post War Career

He served on the S.S. Train Ferry No 2 which was requisitioned by the Navy in September 1939, having been built by Armstrong Whitworth and Company Ltd in 1917 on the orders of the British Army War Office for the carriage of freight vehicles. The ship was requisitioned by the Royal Navy in September 1939 for carrying military traffic to and from Calais. In June 1940, she was assisting in the evacuation of troops from the port of Valery-en-Caux in Normandy when she was damaged by German shore batteries. She was beached and abandoned off Le Havre. 14 crew members were lost of whom one was Douglas Catchpole aged 22.
