Served in Sicily and iIaly (including Monte Cassino, Anzi Salerno and san Marino) He was Mentioned in Despatches in 1944 and 1945.

Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant before the War with Scrutton and Goodchild, he returned to private practice and took over the business of H. W. Denton. He retired in 1976. He was a keen sailor and tennis player and had a long association with Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club and the Felixstowe and Suffolk Lawn Tennis Club. He was a Freemason and Past Master of his Lodge.
